Reflections of Life
Bishop Algie W. Mitchell an anointed humble man of God and son of the late William Mann Mitchell and the late Everleaner Mitchell, was born on October 18, 1929 in Wake County, North Carolina. Quietly and peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, September 16, 2020, God called Algie to his prepared Heavenly home.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Algie Mae Mitchell on April 21, 1950. To this union were born six children.
In the early 1950’s under the leadership of Rev. James Jones, Bishop Mitchell accepted Christ and joined Christ Holy Temple COGIC. He served in that ministry for many years.
Algie accepted his calling and the Lord allowed him and his wife to start their own ministry. He has pastored several churches. He was blessed to become the host Bishop of True Holiness Church in Providence and the State Bishop of The Lord’s Temple International, Avon, MA.
He and his wife started a singing group with their six children. “The Mitchell Singers”. He taught them to sing, stay in the right key enabling them to sing correctly. He taught his sons Billy and Warren to play the guitar and they taught their younger brother Calvin. The group later changed their name to “Billy Mitchell and the Morning Stars.
He was a lover of Jesus Christ, he devoted his life to serving the Lord. While on this journey the experienced some hardships as many of us have, but the Lord saw him through them all brought him out victoriously. The Lord inspired him to sing many songs, but the one that God truly anointed him to sing was “Out of all the things I come through in my life, I still got my joy”. Oh. What an uplifting song!!!
Bishop Algie Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife Algie Mae, his daughter Cora Leen Smart and son Warren Dennis Mitchell. Our matriarch leaves to cherish his precious memory and celebrate his victorious life: two sons, William Thomas and Calvin Kenny Mitchell both of Providence. Two daughters Sheila Lynette Hepburn (Arney) and Suzie Maeo Clinton of Alexandria, VA. Five granddaughters; Nicole, Liana, Shavon, Andrea (Nathaniel Carswell) and Kimberly, two grandsons Arney David and Dayquan. Eight great-grandchildrem Thomas, Noelle, Anthoni, Xavier, Trinity, Ny’Lah, Benjamin and Markus. Two sisters-in-law, Shirley Parrish and Ella Woolford. He was the last of his siblings: Louizer Jones, Mary Jones, Nellie King, Everleaner Jones, Rufus Montague, Gladys Lucas, Hasty Lucas, James Mitchell, Oscar Mitchell and George Mitchell. A host of other family, nieces, nephews and friends. The saints love him dearly. Bishop Mitchell was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
