Obituary

Calvin Kennedy Mitchell, 61 passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in Providence, RI.

He was born on May 12, 1959 in Providence, RI to the late Algie W. Mitchell and the late Algie Mae (Cannady) Mitchell.

Calvin attended the Providence Public School System.

Growing up Calvin traveled and sang with his family group, "Billy Mitchell & the Morning Stars".

In the mid 70s he toured and played lead guitar as a band member for the R&B group, called Ecstasy. They performed at a packed out Providence Civic Center (aka) the Dunkin Donuts Center. They also toured throughout the United States.

Calvin loved cooking and entertaining people and just making people feel special. He had a very generous heart.

He was one of RI's finest musicians. He sang and played guitar for various gospel groups, such as "The Mitchell Singers", "The Gospel Soul Singers", "The Benton Brothers", and (played a short time) for "Refine 313" just to name a few.

As a skilled musician, singer, songwriter, and producer MUSIC wasn't just his PASSION but it was his LIFE.

Calvin is survived by his daughter, Ms. Shavon Smith and his two sisters, Sheila L. Hepburn (Arney) of Cranston, RI. and Suzie Mitchell Clinton of Alexandria, VA.

Calvin is preceded in death by his father, Bishop Algie W. Mitchell; his mother, Missionary Algie Mae Mitchell; his brothers, William "Billy" T. Mitchell, Warren Dennis Mitchell and his sister, Cora L. Smart.

He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends that will miss Calvin dearly.
