Joel Melvin Cassell Jr.
It is with the saddest regret that we inform you of the untimely passing of our beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend, Joel Melvin Cassell Jr. (affectionately known as Buku) that occurred on the evening of Tuesday April 21, 2020.
Born on February 11, 1960 in Brewerville, Liberia unto Helen Brown and Joel M. Cassell Sr.; Joel's life began and although he faced many challenges, he persevered in order to have a better life.
Upon his arrival to the USA, Joel resided in Providence, RI where he became a well known humanitarian whose focus was to help not just family but all those that were in need. He was extremely hardworking and often devoted his time throughout the elderly community to ensure their day to day needs were met. Joel was a man who put Christ as the center of his life and was very active in his church activities throughout the years.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin and friend. Wherever he was present, his liveliness would captivate a room. Joel had an ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Joel is survived by his six children: Gloria, Joelle, Sardia, Joel III, Alex and Shady. Three grandchildren: Genesis, Tristan and Cassandra. Step-mother: Mrs. Rebecca Cassell. Six brothers: Marcus, Alex, Harrison, Thomas, Lorenzo and Stanford. Four sisters: Pandora, Sardia, Zoe and Linda. Ex-wife: Joan, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and God children in the USA, Liberia and other parts of the world.
The world has lost a true gem that has impacted so many lives in the most positive way imaginable. He will be remembered for his constant smile, his contagious laugh, his diligent service to many and so on. Although he is no longer here with us in the physical, we ask that you hold on to the memories which will forever be embedded in our hearts.
