William Thomas Mitchell,69, passed away on Thursday October 22, 2020 in Providence, RI.
Born on August 24, 1951 in Providence, RI, he was the beloved son of the late Algie W. Mitchell and the late Algie Mae (Cannady) Mitchell.
William attended the Providence public school system. He also attended the Job Corp. program in Massachusetts in his late teens.
William was employed at Carol Cable in Pawtucket, RI in which he retired from. He was also a member of his family singing group, "Billy Mitchell and the Morning Stars", which was named after William because he was the oldest child.
Not only was he a member of his family singing group, but he also provided guitar lessons, played guitar for "The Bible Tones" of Boston, MA., "The Sensational Gospel Singers", The New Gospel Singers", and "The Gospel Inspiration Singers" just to name a few.
Singing and playing the guitar, meeting other gospel singers was his passion and joy. He was well known and embraced by many of the top gospel quartet groups in the United States.
His hobby was antique cars. For many years he would go to the Antique Car Show that was held in Riverisde, RI.
He was a member of Harvest Hope COGIC for many years under the leadership of Pastor Michael Brown where he served as a deacon and a musician.
Our brother had many challenges with his health. We watched as God would pull him through again. He never sang the song ("I Won't Complain"), but if anyone could truly sing it, it would be him because we never heard him complain or get upset with God or people because of his health. He always trusted God knowing that he would bring him through. 2nd Timothy 4:7-8: (7)I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. (8) Hence forth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
He will be truly missed.
William is survived by his two sisters: Sheila L. Hepburn (Arney) of Cranston, RI and Suzie Mitchell Clinton of Alexandria, VA. One brother Calvin K. Mitchell of Providence, RI.
